Thierry Mathou, the French ambassador to India, recently underlined how unique the French-Indian relationship is. In his remarks after his appointment on September 17, 2023, he expressed this feeling and emphasized the strategic and long-standing alliance that has developed over time.
Mathou pointed out that 2023 is a big year because it’s the 25th anniversary of the France-India Strategic Partnership. He said that the recent G20 Summit was a critical time for both countries to assess their bilateral ties and define ambitious goals for the future, especially in light of 2047, which would mark the centennial of India’s independence and the opening of diplomatic relations with France.
Both nations prioritize defense cooperation and regional stability as major actors in the Indo-Pacific area.
Both countries have made addressing climate change and other global issues a top priority, demonstrating their dedication to sustainable growth.
Closer links between both peoples are mostly dependent on initiatives to improve educational exchanges, create jobs through French investments in India, and cooperate on scientific projects.
In order to carry out this vision and uphold the common ideals of liberty, equality, and democracy, Mathou stated his desire to collaborate with Indian authorities and civil society. He characterized the alliance as both universal and strategic, covering a wide range of topics from space exploration to maritime cooperation.
