Jinping Congratulates President Murmu on the 75th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations with the Dragon-Elephant Tango

On April 1, 2025, the 75th anniversary of India-China diplomatic ties, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian President Droupadi Murmu sent each other congratulations. Fostering a “Dragon-Elephant Tango,” which represents cooperative relationships that serve the basic interests of both nations and their peoples, is crucial, according to Xi.

As significant developing countries in the Global South and ancient civilizations, he emphasized that both countries are in crucial phases of modernization. In order to foster peaceful coexistence, mutual trust, and shared development, Xi urged that bilateral relations be handled strategically and over an extended period of time. He stated that he was prepared to strengthen strategic mutual trust, expand collaboration in a number of areas, and protect peace in border areas.

“President Xi Jinping and President Droupadi Murmu exchange congratulatory messages on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and India,” read a statement released by Xu Feihong, the Chinese ambassador to India. China and India are both ancient civilizations, significant developing nations, and significant members of the Global South, according to President Xi. Both nations are in a pivotal phase of their modernization efforts.

The evolution of relations between China and India shows that it is the best course of action for both parties to work together for mutual gain and achieve a cooperative pas de deux of the dragon and the elephant, which fully serves the basic interests of both nations and their citizens. In order to achieve peaceful coexistence, mutual trust and benefit, and shared development, both parties should approach and manage China-India relations from a long-term and strategic standpoint. They should also work together to advance global multipolarization and democracy in international relations,” he continued.

In return, President Murmu emphasized that India and China would both gain from stable, predictable, and cordial relations, which would also promote world peace. She suggested taking advantage of the anniversary to promote solid and wholesome bilateral relations.

Additionally, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent each other messages indicating their desire to strengthen their partnership and appropriately handle boundary disputes. Modi emphasized how important bilateral relations development is to world stability and the rise of a multipolar world.

This development coincides with attempts to mend fences after the clashes in the Galwan Valley in 2020. Recently, both parties have talked about gradually resuming dialogue mechanisms to concentrate on priority areas.
