Meeting with Singapore’s top brass, EAM Jaishankar discusses the outcomes of PM Modi’s last visit.

During his July 13, 2025, visit to Singapore, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held a number of high-level meetings, demonstrating the strategic significance of India’s relationship with Singapore.

He had meetings with Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade & Industry Gan Kim Yong, and President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

Reviewing the results of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s previous visit and the second round of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) were the main topics of discussion. Investments, industrial parks, semiconductors, infrastructure, skill development, and connectivity were among the main areas of collaboration that were examined.

Both parties also discussed more general regional and international problems, such as changes in the Indo-Pacific, ASEAN, and other areas. Jaishankar underlined Singapore’s pivotal role in India’s Act East Policy, calling the nation “at the heart” of the policy and highlighting its importance in India’s economic and geopolitical push to Southeast Asia.

In order to talk about the ongoing changes in India and look into ways Temasek may increase its interests there, Jaishankar also met with Teo Chee Hean, a former senior minister and chairman-designate of Temasek Holdings. Both sides emphasized the visit as a component of frequent high-level meetings, highlighting the strong and developing partnership between the two nations.

After meeting with Jaishankar, Singapore’s foreign minister Vivian Balakrishnan stated that India’s position as a significant global player will only grow as the globe becomes more multipolar. The two nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their bilateral cooperation by agreeing to host the third India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable in New Delhi shortly.

After his engagements in Singapore, Jaishankar traveled to China for the first time since the 2020 hostilities in the Galwan Valley to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Tianjin and to undertake bilateral discussions.
