Adani Group, which the short seller had targeted in January 2023, launched a resolute assault against the US-based short seller Hindenburg Research, which shut down weeks after Joe Biden lost the presidential election in January.
Days before Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani was in Israel to finalize a $1.2-billion contract to purchase the Haifa harbor, the Hindenburg report was released. A joint venture between Gadot Masofim for Chemicals Ltd. and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd., in which the Indian company had the controlling interest, submitted the winning offer.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended the signing on January 31, 2023, after 18 arduous months of bids, reviews, and approvals for the privatization of Haifa Port.
The owner of the fact-checking website “Only Fact,” Vijay Patel, shared on X what he discovered when looking into the Hindenburg hit job on Adani Group. This information was supported by fresh data from Israel’s spy agency Mossad.
According to Mr. Patel, two leaders were privately debating the Hindenburg report on the Adani Group when Mr. Adani was in Israel on January 31, 2023, to finalize the Haifa seaport project.
He said that Mossad’s report is not available to the public and that anyone interested in learning the names can read the thread he put on X. “When Mossad agents started to monitor the Hindenburg office, they found a complex web of activist lawyers, journalists, hedge funds, and politicians,” they stated.
The most startling was when Mossad spies broke into a building in the suburban area of Oakbrook Terrace, a small Illinois town outside of Chicago. They have effectively encrypted conversations between activists based in the US, Europe, Canada, Australia, and India and privately held alternative asset management companies,” Mr. Patel stated.
He said that the Indian Overseas Congress also had the same address.
Hindenburg’s announcement of its closure sparked concerns about the damage it caused to Indian investors. Nate Anderson, the creator of Hindenburg, mentioned that the short seller finished the projects it was working on.
According to senior attorney Sidharth Luthra, who spoke to NDTV, Mr. Anderson’s decision to dissolve Hindenburg also followed the Supreme Court’s directive that all pertinent agencies investigate the case.
Rajat Sethi, a political analyst, claimed that investors lost money as a result of the foreign company operating outside of India’s borders attempting to influence Indian markets.
Following Mr. Anderson’s announcement, further serious concerns were voiced. Does Hindenburg’s dissolution demonstrate the organization’s shoot-and-scoot mentality? Regarding those who accept the Hindenburg report, what does it say? Were foreign elements and the deep state conspiring? Is it possible to punish Hindenburg? Or was the ‘India Story’ heavily influenced by foreigners?
Senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani, a Rajya Sabha MP, had claimed that Hindenburg’s dissolution indicated broader ramifications and raised the possibility of US authorities looking into the company or fearing an investigation for its involvement in attacking Adani Group companies.
Mr. Jethmalani called the development an act of “economic terrorism” intended to destabilize India and connected it to the “democratic deep-state” headed by billionaire George Soros.
At the June 2024 annual general meeting, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani stated that the company “faced baseless accusations made by a foreign short seller that questioned our decades of hard work.”
