An official announcement said that Sadanand Vasant Date, who valiantly confronted terrorists during the 26/11 Mumbai tragedy, assumed leadership of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday. Dinkar Gupta, an Indian Police Service officer from the Maharashtra cadre who joined in 1990, was succeeded by Date, who retired on Sunday.

Date was the head of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) before to joining the NIA.

According to the NIA statement, he has held a number of significant posts in Maharashtra, including Joint Commissioner Law and Order, Police Commissioner of Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar, and Joint Commissioner Crime Branch Mumbai.

Date has worked for the Indian government for two terms: as a deputy inspector general in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and as a member of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

In recognition of his assistance in stopping the terrorists responsible for the horrific attacks on Mumbai in November 2008, Date was granted the President’s Police Medal for heroism in 2008.

The nation’s primary counterterrorism law enforcement organisation, the NIA, was established in the wake of the 2008 terror strikes.

It further stated that Date was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2014 as well as the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2007.
