On the G7 sidelines in Canada, PM Modi meets with President Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo of Mexico.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Mexican President Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo for the first time after her historic election victory during the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the long-standing friendship between the two countries by congratulating President Sheinbaum on her victory and thanking Mexico for its assistance in India’s war against terrorism.

The leaders stressed the significance of improving people-to-people interactions while talking about growing bilateral cooperation in a number of important areas, such as trade, investment, start-ups, innovation, science and technology, and the automobile industry.

They looked at fresh prospects and recognized the expanding trade and investment links, especially in the area of near-shoring, where Mexico presents promising opportunities. Along with cooperation in agriculture and holistic health, the pharmaceutical industry was emphasized as a field in which India could make a contribution by supplying and manufacturing reasonably priced, high-quality medications.

In addition to expressing gratitude for India’s technological, innovative, and digital public infrastructure breakthroughs, President Sheinbaum also stated a want for further collaboration in these areas.

Prime Minister Modi suggested looking at joint ventures in vital minerals, semiconductors, AI, and quantum technologies. Along with highlighting the strong cultural and people-to-people linkages that are anticipated to further increase tourism and understanding, both leaders also mentioned the forthcoming engagements between their respective think-tank groups.

On the international scene, Prime Minister Modi and Sheinbaum discussed urgent regional and global concerns, with a focus on the Global South’s priorities, a theme he reinforced throughout the summit. Modi reaffirmed the desire to further fortify the India-Mexico partnership by inviting President Sheinbaum to visit India and reminiscing over his 2016 trip to Mexico.

Reflecting the rising warmth and strategic depth in India-Mexico relations, the summit emphasized a shared resolve to strengthen collaboration across all sectors and to engage cooperatively on global concerns.
