On the G7 sidelines in Canada, PM Modi meets with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.

A number of high-level bilateral talks, including a noteworthy one with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on the margins of the summit, characterized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attendance at the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada. With an emphasis on growing collaboration in a number of important areas, this summit reaffirmed South Korea’s and India’s ongoing commitment to strengthening their Special Strategic Partnership.

PM Modi and President Lee reiterated throughout their talks that they would look into new ways to work together. The following areas were identified for increased partnership: shipbuilding, green hydrogen, trade and economy, people-to-people (P2P) relationships, cultural exchanges, and crucial and emerging technologies. In order to promote innovation and long-term success, both leaders emphasized the significance of utilizing their unique industrial and technological advantages.

In keeping with the larger framework of the G7 Summit, which placed global concerns like energy security, technological innovation, and geopolitical stability at the forefront, regional and global issues also played a significant role in their discussions. Both parties expressed a common vision for peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond during what was characterized as a fruitful meeting between Modi and Lee.

During the conference, PM Modi met with leaders from Canada, Germany, Australia, Mexico, South Africa, and other countries as part of his larger diplomatic effort. The summit itself gave India, a frequent invitee but not a G7 member, a chance to emphasize problems that are important to the Global South and to reaffirm its position as a major force in global governance.

By laying the groundwork for further collaboration in strategic and developing areas and promoting discussion on urgent regional and international issues, the Modi-Lee meeting on the G7 sidelines in Canada strengthened the relationship between South Korea and India.
