Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated that he is open to talks with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Putin said he is willing to talk about possible concessions without any restrictions at his yearly Q&A session with the public. He emphasized that any deal must involve Ukraine’s legal authorities, which he presently refers to as the Ukrainian parliament.
Putin emphasized that although he hasn’t spoken to Trump in a number of years, he is still amenable to a meeting. He denied accusations that Russia was in a vulnerable position, claiming that Russia had become more powerful since its military operations in Ukraine started in 2022. “We have consistently stated our readiness for negotiations and compromise,” he said, adding that the number of Ukrainian military prepared to fight on may soon decline.
According to the Russian leader, any future discussions should bring up a previous proposal from the Istanbul meetings that many Ukrainian officials felt was not in their best interests. Additionally, he rejected the idea of a short-term truce, stating that only a full peace agreement would be acceptable.
