On April 9, 2025, security troops in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara region successfully spotted and defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Hafrada village of Villgam, preventing a terrible disaster.
The IED, which weighed around 12 kilogrammes, was discovered during a regular patrol by a Road Opening Party (ROP) along a nearby roadway. When the ROP saw the device, they promptly notified local police, and a bomb disposal crew was dispatched to disarm it.
The operation was carried out successfully, avoiding what could have been a disastrous tragedy, especially given that the road is routinely utilised by both security forces and civilians.
In a separate incident, a BSF Jawan was critically injured in an IED explosion near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab’s Gurdaspur region. The explosion happened when a disguised detonating device was accidently activated during area sanitisation. Despite the dangers, the forces continued their mission, securing the area and defusing the remaining IEDs after daylight.
A CRPF jawan was also injured in Bijapur as a result of a pressure IED bomb planted by Naxals. The Jawan has been admitted to a hospital, and a search operation is underway in the surrounding surroundings.
