A strategic alliance has been formed between South Korea’s STX Engine and BEML Ltd., a Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU), to jointly develop, produce, and sell battle tank engines, marine engines, spare parts, and engine aggregates. On February 11, 2025, at Aero India 2025, Shantanu Roy, CMD of BEML Ltd., and Sangsu Lee, President & CEO of STX Engine, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), announcing the partnership.
In line with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) vision, the partnership seeks to lessen India’s reliance on imports while bolstering domestic manufacturing, defense, and maritime capabilities.
Through the integration of STX Engine’s cutting-edge technology and BEML’s engineering capabilities, the partnership aims to foster innovation and establish a strong domestic manufacturing ecosystem.
By utilising STX Engine’s experience to create cutting-edge propulsion solutions for India’s developing defence programmes and investigate export prospects to friendly countries, BEML hopes to increase its presence in the defence and marine engine industries.
BEML will expedite localization and indigenization efforts and optimize production procedures suited to the manufacturing of specialized engines.
In order to meet India’s defense requirements, this partnership includes engine component servicing and maintenance. BEML will create cutting-edge propulsion solutions by utilizing STX Engine’s experience.
