The dates of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s anticipated trip to India are probably going to be decided upon early in the upcoming year. Yury Ushakov and other Kremlin advisers made the announcement, confirming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited them at their most recent meetings. The visit is anticipated to occur in early 2025 and will mark Putin’s first trip to India since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022.
The visit is in accordance with a long-standing agreement between Russia and India that each leader will host the summit once a year. It is Putin’s time to travel to India after Modi’s July 2024 visit to Moscow.
Ushakov underlined the significance of these meetings for bilateral ties and said Russia is taking Modi’s invitation seriously.
Given that Putin is facing an arrest order from the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged war crimes in Ukraine, this meeting takes place at a moment of high geopolitical tension. However, Putin would not face any legal consequences during his visit because neither Russia nor India have ratified the ICC’s governing treaty.
Modi’s two trips to Russia this year highlight their continued communication and collaboration.
The Kremlin has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding close connections between Russia and India by stating that more information about the precise dates will be released soon.
