The Ministry of Defense is expected to approve ₹70,000 crore for the construction of the most advanced ships to be built in India.

Although the defense ministry has not yet disclosed all the project’s specifics, it is most likely going to be divided between the two yards. Given that project division facilitates timely delivery, the ministry followed the same approach with Project 17A.

Brahmos cruise missiles, electronic warfare systems, anti-submarine armaments, and a fire control system built domestically will all be installed on the frigates under the proposed purchase. Sub-suppliers and vendors will gain from the order since they will receive the majority of the work.

The Government of India purchased GRSE, a yard located in Kolkata, in 1960 after it had begun as a modest workshop to repair River Steam Navigation Company boats as a private enterprise.

In 1961, it became the first shipyard in independent India to construct the battleship INS Ajay for the Indian Navy. The company is constructing anti-submarine warfare corvettes and next-generation offshore patrol boats.

MDL is one of India’s top warshipbuilding yards, situated in Mumbai. Prior to the government taking over in 1960, it was a private company. MDL recently completed building destroyers of the Project 15B class. It is now working on Project 17A class frigates and Kalvari class submarines.
