The goal of this project is to utilize the Himalayan region’s geothermal potential, which has been found to be a suitable location for the production of such energy.

To find viable sites for geothermal energy projects throughout Uttarakhand, a team of specialists from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Geological Survey of India, and Iceland Geo-Survey will carry out feasibility assessments.
According to calculations, Uttarakhand has a considerable amount of geothermal energy potential; temperatures in the area that are appropriate for energy generation fall between 121°C and 371°C. Hot springs have already been found in Badrinath, Gaurikund, and Tapovan, making them noteworthy locations for further investigation.
This Memorandum of Understanding is a component of the Uttarakhand government’s larger plan to diversify its energy sources. In order to fulfill its increasing demand for electricity, the state is now considering renewable options like geothermal energy after encountering difficulties with hydroelectric projects. If this project is carried out successfully, it may open the door for similar projects in other states, improving the renewable energy situation in India.
