In his speech to the Lok Sabha on December 3, 2024, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the need of preserving peace and tranquility along the border for the advancement of India-China ties.
Since April 2020, he said, bil
ateral relations have been “abnormal” after severe skirmishes along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that killed people for the first time in decades. Jaishankar highlighted recent diplomatic engagements that have led to some improvement in relations, particularly following a disengagement agreement reached in October 2024.

He reaffirmed India’s determination to hold bilateral talks with China in order to come to a just and agreeable framework for settling boundary disputes.
