48 Million Chips Per Day: Following a milestone in pilot production, TATA Electronics’ Assam Chip Hub is almost ready for commercial launch.

In order to prepare for full commercial operations between December 2026 and January 2027, TATA Electronics has begun a critical new phase at its semiconductor packaging factory in Jagiroad, Assam. Pilot chip production is currently underway.

Supported by a ₹27,000 crore investment, the 592-acre facility is considered one of India’s most important semiconductor manufacturing projects.

The plant, which is situated in Jagiroad, was designed as an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility.

The factory is anticipated to produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips every day once it is completely ramped up.

Numerous high-growth industries are anticipated to be served by the plant.

It is anticipated that automotive applications will contribute significantly to the facility’s output.

Additionally, the Assam facility is starting to play a major role in TATA Electronics’ larger semiconductor strategy.

TATA Electronics established over 16 relationships with businesses in Europe, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore after announcing ties at SEMICON India 2026.

In addition to encouraging further localization of semiconductor manufacturing inputs, the diversification strategy aims to increase resilience against global supply chain disruptions, geopolitical conflicts, and trade-related obstacles.

The plant is not anticipated to reach full capacity right once, even though pilot production has started.

Alongside production preparations, workforce development is also advancing.

About 27,000 direct and indirect job opportunities in engineering, clean-room operations, semiconductor testing, research and development, technical support, and related services are anticipated as a result of the project.

The facility’s surrounding infrastructure is still being developed to accommodate the expanding industrial ecology.

With the longer-term goal of establishing a larger semiconductor manufacturing cluster in the area, the Assam government is also attempting to draw in additional semiconductor-related investments and auxiliary sectors surrounding Jagiroad.

The start of pilot production is a significant milestone for both TATA Electronics and India’s goal of enhancing its own semiconductor capabilities.
