Jaishankar says Indian businesses should deal with China in a balanced manner.

At a recent event hosted by the Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stressed the significance of a balanced approach for Indian companies doing business with China. He emphasized that although China accounts for a sizable amount of global manufacturing and is essential to many supply chains, India should not become overly dependent on it, particularly in light of the tense political ties that have developed between the two countries in recent years as a result of border disputes.

According to Jaishankar, recent diplomatic efforts have made considerable headway in settling conflicts along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), but more talks are required to guarantee stability and reciprocal advantages in trade. He emphasized the necessity for Indian companies, especially micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs), to stay competitive and warned against letting India turn into a market for Chinese goods.

He added that China’s aggressive border measures have been the main reason why India and China’s relationship has been “abnormal” since 2020. Reiterating that border peace is essential to mending bilateral relations, the minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to working with China to create a just framework for resolving disputes over borders.
