Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi and External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar recently spoke over the phone on regional developments. Jaishankar provided information about the conversation on X, thanking the participants and highlighting the significance of continuing engagement in the face of shifting geopolitical conditions.
This discussion comes after major events in Oman, where the country has been actively mediating indirect talks between the US and Iran on sanctions and nuclear matters.
Under Albusaidi’s mediation, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi oversaw the negotiations in Muscat. The goal of these conversations was to advance diplomatic solutions and were marked by respect for one another.
Additionally, Jaishankar’s interaction with Albusaidi builds on their encounter in February at the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat. Both presidents examined India-Oman bilateral relations at the time, emphasizing investment, commerce, energy security, and cross-cultural cooperation. In addition to launching a book titled Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman, which highlights centuries-old people-to-people links, Jaishankar introduced a logo honoring 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Oman.
Oman’s strategic significance is highlighted by its function as a mediator in regional diplomacy, and India is enhancing its relationship with Oman through high-level meetings and cultural projects.
