Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been informed by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai that the Naxal influence has been eliminated in the districts of Bastar and Kondagaon. This declaration coincides with the region’s ongoing anti-Naxal operations, which have stepped up this year and shown notable victory against Maoist rebels. Security forces have reportedly murdered 207 Maoists in 2024 alone, a sharp rise from the 22 Maoists killed the year before.
At a meeting in Delhi, Chief Minister Sai gave an update on the situation in these delicate areas and outlined the government’s plans to build infrastructure more quickly, including building more than 15,000 homes for former Maoists and people impacted by Left Wing Extremism (LWE). A significant number of security forces have been deployed and camps have been established in the Bastar region, which is a hotbed of Maoist activity, to aid in operations against the rebels.
From December 13 to 15, Amit Shah is expected to go to Chhattisgarh, where he will stay overnight at a forward base in Bastar. It is anticipated that his visit will take place during ongoing operations to further reduce the Naxal presence in the region.
