Two people, Veen Tandel and Akshay Naik, have been taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on suspicion of giving a Pakistani agent confidential information about the Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka.
Following an investigation into espionage activities involving the exchange of photos and information about naval movements in exchange for cash, the arrests took place on February 18, 2025.
The two contract employees were detained for allegedly being honey-trapped on Facebook and then disclosing confidential information about INS Kadamba to a Pakistani agent.
According to the people, the two are accused of giving a woman posing as a marine officer classified information, such as photos of restricted areas and naval movements.
Local police stations in Karwar and Ankola are currently questioning both suspects.
Intelligence from PakistanSocial media sites like Facebook have been used by agencies to “honey-trap” people into disclosing private information. Due to their alleged disclosure of confidential information about the Karwar naval base, the two were placed under remand.
