Regarding USCIRF’s suggestion to add India to the CPC List, the U.S. State Department declines to comment.

Regarding the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom’s (USCIRF) recommendation in its annual report to name India a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC), the U.S. State Department has refrained from commenting.

The department would review the issue, according to spokeswoman Tammy Bruce, but she would not address any diplomatic issues or negotiations surrounding the report. Since 2020, the USCIRF has recommended that India be designated as a CPC, citing grave violations of religious freedom. However, the State Department has yet to accept these recommendations.

According to the USCIRF’s 2025 report, religious freedom in India has gotten worse, with more attacks on religious minorities and more repressive measures against minorities overseas.

Additionally, it demands that India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) be sanctioned for its alleged role in global incidents. India has denied these claims, calling the USCIRF a “entity of concern,” and has rejected the USCIRF’s findings as unreliable and biased.

Despite repeated USCIRF recommendations, India is still not included in the CPC designation, which currently includes 12 nations like China, North Korea, and Pakistan.
