Israeli and Indian defence officials discuss current West Asian developments.

Amid rapidly growing tensions in West Asia, senior defence officials from India and Israel held a high-level meeting to review the shifting security situation.

On Wednesday, Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh had a call from Major General (Res) Amir Baram, Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Defense, who updated him on the ongoing crisis and its consequences for regional stability.

India’s Ministry of Defence acknowledged the talks via a social media statement, emphasizing the need of maintaining open channels between the two countries during this period of increased uncertainty.

The backdrop to these discussions is the escalating crisis between Israel and Iran, which is currently in its seventh day. The conflict began after Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion” on June 13, targeting Iranian military and nuclear targets in what Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called as a mission to neutralize the “Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival.” In return, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched “Operation True Promise 3,” a massive drone and missile operation against Israeli military infrastructure, including fighter aircraft fuel manufacturing and energy supply facilities.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have reported that air operations continue over Tehran and other Iranian areas, while Iran has activated its air defence systems in retaliation. Missile exchanges continue, with both sides advising people in major cities to take precautions.

Internationally, the battle has received a lot of attention. US President Donald Trump called a situation room conference to discuss potential American reactions, but he has not committed to direct military action, stating that all options are still on the table and that the outcome is uncertain. The US government is keenly monitoring whether Iran will abandon its nuclear ambitions, as Israel insists on eliminating Iran’s nuclear program as well as its ballistic missile capability.

India, an important regional partner with close strategic relations to both Israel and Iran, has expressed alarm over the escalation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already corresponded with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasizing India’s support for the immediate restoration of peace and stability in the region. In parallel, India’s External Affairs Minister has met with Israeli colleagues to discuss the new events, demonstrating New Delhi’s active diplomatic outreach and concern in sustaining regional stability.

The continued interaction between Indian and Israeli defense officials emphasizes the gravity of the situation in West Asia, as well as the mutual interest in monitoring security developments. Both countries remain committed to exchange information and perspectives as the crisis progresses, with India reiterating its support for regional peace and stability.
