India reiterates its call for a peaceful resolution as Putin shares insights with PM Modi after their meeting with Trump.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was contacted by Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss his recent meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska about the war in Ukraine.

Modi said during the phone chat that India has consistently called for a peaceful end to the current situation in Ukraine and that it supports any attempts to do so. In addition, Modi expressed gratitude to Putin for the update and expressed anticipation for more communication between the two leaders.

India had earlier praised Trump and Putin’s leadership in promoting peace and hailed the US-Russia summit that was held in Alaska.

In addition to highlighting the summit’s accomplishments, the External Affairs Ministry emphasized that communication and diplomacy are the only paths forward. The conflict in Ukraine has caused a great deal of pain, and the world wants it to end soon.

The summit lasted less than three hours, less than the seven that were predicted. Following the meeting, Putin and Trump both spoke briefly to reporters without fielding any questions.

Putin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to bringing the war to an end, but emphasized that any sustainable agreement must address the underlying causes of the conflict. He cautioned the European Union and Ukraine from attempting to undermine the advancements through backroom politics or provocations.

Trump described the discussion as “extremely productive” and said that there was agreement on a number of issues. Although he noted that there are still major issues that will make the agreement ultimately dependent on Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he voiced cautious confidence about the likelihood of a truce. “There’s no deal until there’s a deal,” he emphasized, underscoring the necessity of mutual acceptance for any final agreement.

In addition, Modi thanked Ukraine President Zelenskyy for his Independence Day greetings and hoped Ukraine a peaceful, prosperous future. Reiterating its position that peaceful talks are the best way to a long-term solution, India continues to urge engagement including all parties to put a stop to the hostilities.

As a result, India has consistently advocated for peace and diplomacy while actively interacting with major parties to the conflict, such as Russia, the US, and Ukraine, in an effort to positively impact the war’s conclusion.

India’s continued commitment to this goal is demonstrated by Modi’s outreach to Putin and recognition of the Trump-Putin summit. India and Russia continue to have close bilateral relations, and talks about strategic collaboration extend beyond the actual conflict.

Modi’s invitation to Putin to come to India later this year for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit highlights the high level of diplomatic interaction taking place in tandem with these events.
