ISRO Chairman: AI-Enabled Robot Will Launch Half-Humanoid “Vyommitra” Into Space This December

Vyommitra, an AI-enabled half-humanoid female robot, would be a key component of the future uncrewed Gaganyaan expedition, which is planned for December–end 2025, according to confirmation from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

In addition to monitoring crew module systems and life-support operations, Vyommitra, which was created to mimic human presence in space, will be used to evaluate and report onboard parameters including temperature, pressure, humidity, and carbon dioxide levels.

Engineers on the ground can verify preparedness for India’s first human spaceflight thanks to the robot’s sophisticated interfaces, which allow it to control various control panels, send out system alerts, and react to mission directions.

Vyommitra’s deployment is an essential milestone before astronauts set out on the three-day orbital Gaganyaan expedition at roughly 400 km altitude, said ISRO Chairman V Narayanan.

In order to guarantee a safe splashdown in the ocean, ISRO has created a parachute-based re-entry profile with nine parachutes and integrated a strong Crew Escape System.

By fusing local engineering with AI-powered autonomy, the mission marks a significant milestone in India’s human spaceflight endeavors and opens the door for more crewed missions in the future.
