According to UN Resident Coordinator Shombi Sharp, “We Need The Leadership India Brings.”

Shombi Sharp, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in India, has publicly commended India’s growing global importance, emphasizing the country’s vital leadership position in development, peacekeeping, and geopolitics.

Sharp emphasized India’s dedication to the ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ ideology, which is based on the idea that the world is one family and is crucial for tackling today’s global issues.

India’s ability to bridge the gap between high-tech innovation and grassroots socioeconomic growth has made it increasingly important in the geopolitical and development arenas, according to Sharp. He pointed out that the Global South can learn a lot from India’s remarkable accomplishments, which include successful lunar landings and the lifting of hundreds of millions out of poverty.

Particularly noteworthy were India’s technological developments, particularly in the areas of food security and renewable energy. India is a key actor in the global battle to combat hunger and climate change because it spends and innovates in both areas at a rate never seen before, according to Sharp. These innovations highlight the nation’s combined strengths in innovation and inclusive growth, making them immediately applicable to emerging countries.

It was also emphasized how closely India works with the UN on terrorist initiatives. Sharp emphasized that international security measures that are necessary to maintain peace and stability worldwide greatly benefit from India’s leadership and attitude of cooperation.

Sharp cited Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, an ancient Indian philosophy, emphasizing its value in promoting world peace and harmony. The idea, which translates to “the world is one family,” serves as the basis for numerous Indian diplomatic and development endeavors and is becoming more widely acknowledged as a fundamental tenet of international governance and multilateral approaches to common problems.

The fact that India has provided the most troops to UN peacekeeping operations since the beginning of these endeavors was highlighted. Sharp saw Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s declaration of India’s commitment to peace as proof of the country’s continued function as a stabilizing influence and promoter of security and peace in conflict areas across the globe.

Sharp emphasized India’s approach to world peace and prosperity by citing significant statements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. It was emphasized that Jaishankar’s viewpoint, which views peace and development as indivisible aspects of the same coin, is essential to India’s multilateral diplomatic approach. Particularly in view of the severe toll that current conflicts and crises are taking on the Global South, Sharp commended Jaishankar’s demand for equitable solutions, climate justice, and compromise.

Citing the crises in Sudan, Palestine, and Ukraine that disproportionately impact developing nations, Sharp praised Jaishankar’s support for justice and climate justice. Serving not only its own interests but also those of the larger international community, particularly the Global South, India’s efforts were positioned as model initiatives in the pursuit of world peace, justice, and prosperity.
