During their Saturday meeting, UK counterpart David Cameron and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar talked about the developing situation in West Asia. The two leaders also spoke about their bilateral relations.

Jaishankar said, “I spoke with UK Foreign Secretary Lord @David_Cameron today,” in a post on X. talked about our bilateral relations as well as the developing scenario in West Asia.”

Tensions between Israel and Iran were rising at the time of Jaishankar and Cameron’s talks. After Iran threatened to react over an alleged Israeli strike near its embassy in the Syrian capital, tensions have skyrocketed.

The Times of Israel claimed, citing an Iranian news source, that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy captured the Israel-affiliated MSC ARIES container ship on Saturday close to the Strait of Hormuz.

The vessel in question was the MSC Aries, a container ship flying the Portuguese flag and owned by London-based Zodiac Maritime. Israeli millionaire Eyal Ofer is the owner of Zodiac Group, which includes Zodiac Maritime.

The Times of Israel reports that the MSC Aries was last observed on Friday as it made her way off the coast of Dubai towards the Strait of Hormuz. As per the ship tracking website, Marine Traffic, the vessel is presently traversing the Persian Gulf.

The Ministry of External Affairs recommended Indian people to postpone travel to both Iran and Israel till further notice due to the continued tensions between the two countries. The ministry further requested that individuals who are presently in Israel or Iran get in touch with Indian embassies and

The government also advised the Indian citizens living in these two nations to take safety precautions.

“They are also requested to observe utmost precautions about their safety and restrict their movements to the minimum,” the statement read.
