EAM Jaishankar discusses deepening bilateral cooperation with his South Korean counterpart.

On July 28, 2025, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar held a substantial meeting with South Korea’s newly appointed Foreign Minister, Cho Hyun, to discuss methods for enhancing bilateral relations.

Jaishankar expressed his best wishes for Cho Hyun’s successful tenure, indicating a great desire to promote and deepen the continuing collaboration between the two countries.

This discussion followed a series of diplomatic meetings that show the strong and evolving India-South Korea friendship.

Notably, on July 21, Dr. Jaishankar officially congratulated Cho Hyun on his new position and underlined India’s commitment to working together to strengthen their Special Strategic Partnership, a structure aimed to promote comprehensive cooperation across several sectors.

Earlier this month, India commemorated the 10-year anniversary of its strategic partnership with South Korea. On July 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted a delegation of South Korean special envoys, highlighting the need of strong cooperation between New Delhi and Seoul in ensuring Indo-Pacific stability and prosperity.

At the same time, Dr. Jaishankar met with a delegation led by former South Korean Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum.

Their conversations focused on strengthening bilateral relations in critical sectors such as economic cooperation, technical innovation, defense, maritime security, and people-to-people exchanges. Dr. Jaishankar emphasized these engagements on his social media platform, emphasizing the shared desire to broaden collaboration.

During these diplomatic exchanges, both countries expressed renewed enthusiasm for cooperative ventures in emerging and strategic sectors such as green hydrogen, shipbuilding, investment, semiconductor manufacturing, and regional security, all of which are critical to the Indo-Pacific’s stability and growth.

These efforts build on the momentum established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung at the G7 Summit in Canada the previous month. The leaders there promised to step up collaboration in trade, investment, green energy, and cutting-edge technologies.

These ongoing high-level engagements and policy dialogues demonstrate India and South Korea’s deepening partnership, which is defined by a shared vision to strengthen economic ties, technological advancement, strategic security, and sustainable development in an increasingly interconnected regional and global landscape.
