A Canadian report that claims the Indian government meddled in the Canadian elections has been categorically denied by India. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) claimed that Canada was “consistently interfering in India’s internal affairs,” allegedly contributing to problems like organized crime and illegal migration.
India is the second-most active nation, after China, in interfering in Canadian elections, according to the Canadian Commission’s report. It implied that India carries out this kind of meddling through proxies and diplomatic channels, possibly giving Canadian politicians illegal financial support in order to sway elections.
However, the MEA emphasized that the report’s insinuations against India are unfounded and rejected these claims as unfounded.
Recent accusations by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that India was involved in the June 2023 murder of pro-Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar have contributed to the recent escalation of tensions between India and Canada. The two countries’ diplomatic ties have significantly deteriorated as a result of India calling these accusations “absurd” and politically motivated.
