From December 15 to December 17, 2024, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the president of Sri Lanka, is in India for a three-day state visit. Since taking office in September 2024, this is his first international travel. He has held important talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval while he is there.
In line with India’s “Neighbourhood First” strategy and the SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative, Dissanayake underlined the significance of deepening ties between Sri Lanka and India. The goal of the talks was to strengthen collaboration in a number of areas of shared interest, such as commerce and security.
On Monday, December 16, Dissanayake will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu after his discussions with Doval and Jaishankar. It is anticipated that these gatherings would strengthen the two countries’ partnership even more.
During his visit, the president of Sri Lanka is also scheduled to attend a business gathering in Delhi, highlighting the two countries’ economic ties.
