The Cochin Shipyard hosted a steel cutting ceremony for the first ship of the next generation of missile vessels.

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kochi hosted the steel cutting ceremony for the Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) program’s inaugural ship on December 16, 2024. Cmde S. Parthiban, the Warship Production Superintendent in Kochi, was present at this important ceremony.

In March 2023, an agreement was reached with CSL to build six NGMVs, with the intention of integrating the vessels into the Indian Navy beginning in 2027. In order to make the Indian Navy a Future Ready and Combat Ready force, the NGMVs will be equipped with cutting-edge weapons and sensors that will greatly improve its combat capabilities.

With their cutting-edge guns and sensors, the NGMVs are intended to improve the Indian Navy’s fighting capabilities. They can function efficiently in the intricate marine environment of the Indian Ocean Region thanks to these, which comprise Surface-to-Surface Missile Systems, Anti-Missile Defence Systems, and Air Surveillance and Fire Control Radars.

As part of India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) mission, all of the NGMVs’ major equipment has been designed and produced in the country, demonstrating its expanding defence manufacturing capabilities.
