On February 20, 2025, the first Indian Navy training squadron landed in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. Although INS Sujata is also mentioned in some publications as part of the visit, the squadron is made up of the ships INS Tir and ICGS Veera.
Through a variety of contacts, such as cross-training trips, professional conversations, community initiatives, and a visit to the Vietnam Naval Academy, this tour seeks to improve maritime cooperation and interoperability between Vietnam and India.
Bilateral naval drills between the Indian Navy and the Vietnam People’s Navy and Coast Guard will wrap up the tour. The purpose of these exercises is to improve communication and share best practices between the two fleets. This deployment is in line with India’s larger plan to improve maritime security in the region under its Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) strategy.
The prime minister of Vietnam just visited India in August 2024, further solidifying the two countries’ close strategic alliance. The two countries’ increased maritime cooperation is strengthened by this naval visit.
