India and the United States need to work with partners to build a trusted innovation base: White House.

On January 6, 2025, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval emphasised the need of India and the United States working together to build a trustworthy and resilient innovation base. This declaration came after their conversations in New Delhi, which centred on improving technology collaboration and defence supply networks between the two countries.

The White House emphasised that both nations must collaborate closely with partners to boost innovation, particularly in crucial fields like space, semiconductors, biotechnology, cybersecurity, advanced telecommunications, and renewable energy.

iCET, founded in 2022 under the leadership of Presidents Biden and Modi, intends to enable collaboration on new technology. Sullivan remarked that substantial progress has been made since its beginning, demonstrating the benefits of this cooperation for both countries and their friends throughout the world.

Sullivan and Doval reiterated their commitment to creating and developing technologies that are safe, dependable, and cost-effective. This is viewed as critical in the context of increased geopolitical competition.

The collaboration has also resulted in collaborative efforts with like-minded nations in the Indo-Pacific and Europe, such as the Bio-5 Biopharmaceutical Supply Chain Consortium and cooperation through the Quad alliance with Australia and Japan.

Discussions addressed adjusting technology protection regulations in response to national security concerns about overcapacity in critical technological industries. Both leaders welcomed progress in removing long-standing impediments to bilateral trade and technological collaboration.

The continuous discussion between India and the United States indicates a strategic commitment to not only strengthen bilateral relations, but also to create a strong framework for innovation capable of overcoming global issues.
