Assam’s chief minister meets with Japan’s parliamentary vice minister for foreign affairs to talk about youth opportunities.

On January 24, 2025, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is now in Japan, met with the Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs. The main topics of conversation were improving bilateral ties and looking into prospects for Assamese youth.

Sarma emphasized how Assamese youngsters should use current bilateral programs to help Japan meet its skilled labor shortage. Through this effort, young professionals from Assam will have a way to contribute to Japan’s manpower needs.

As a crucial step in promoting economic growth and creating employment possibilities for Assamese youth, the Chief Minister suggested creating a Japanese Industrial Park in Guwahati. Following past losses brought on by civil turmoil, this idea is a component of a larger plan to entice Japanese businesses to return to the area.

Highlighting Assam’s natural beauty and rich cultural legacy, Sarma proposed that boosting tourism might be a major economic engine. Japanese tourists would be interested in Assam’s attractions, he said, including Kaziranga National Park and its tea gardens.

After this meeting, Sarma plans to meet with leading business figures in Japan with the goal of strengthening alliances and investment prospects that will benefit both Assam and Japan.

This visit demonstrates Assam’s dedication to deepening its relationship with Japan while emphasizing the growth of its young via foreign investment and cooperation.
