Micheál Martin was congratulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being re-elected to serve a second term as Prime Minister of Ireland.
The declaration followed Martin’s election by MPs on January 23, 2025, when his nomination was approved 95 to 76. This election was held after a tumultuous parliamentary session in which the January 22 vote was postponed due to opposition protests.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the value of cooperation between India and Ireland and pledged to work closely with Martin’s administration.
He emphasized how the two countries are bound together by common values and interests. The Fianna Fáil party’s leader, Martin, was prime minister from 2020 to 2022 and will now form a government with Fine Gael and a number of independent members.
