On Monday, June 9, 2025, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal officially began his two-day visit to Switzerland, which is the first stop of a larger diplomatic journey that also includes Sweden. Goyal started his visit to Switzerland with a high-level lunch meeting with the CEOs of a few Swiss companies and potential Indian investors.
He emphasized the great prospects that both India and Switzerland have ahead of them during these talks, as well as the optimistic view of the Swiss sector on the impending implementation of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).
A number of targeted sectoral meetings are part of the tour, especially with executives from the Swiss life sciences and pharmaceutical industries, many of whom are actively looking to invest in India.
Goyal mentioned the Swiss businesses’ admiration for India’s strong development prospects, its vibrant innovation scene, and the accomplishments of the “Make in India” campaign. These exchanges aim to promote direct communication between Swiss and Indian business executives as well as strengthen strategic and financial connections.
In addition to the business-related activities, Goyal’s schedule includes meetings with well-known Swiss industry leaders in fields like high-tech manufacturing, machine tools, and precision engineering. His meeting with Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, which intends to further enhance trade and political ties between the two nations, will be a major feature of the trip.
Goyal will also interact with Indian media and establish a connection with the ICAI Zurich Chapter, highlighting the visit’s diverse aspects. Participation in the Swissmem Industry Day and a Business Round Table with the Swiss Mechanical and Electrical (MEM) Industry are also on the day’s schedule. These gatherings will offer a forum for discussing the potential benefits of the India-EFTA TEPA and for looking at particular directions for cooperation between Swiss and Indian companies.
This visit reinforces India’s commitment to strengthening its strategic and economic alliances with important European countries, promoting strong trade and investment links, and supporting a common vision for resilient global growth, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry emphasized. This visit is an important step in bolstering India-Switzerland economic ties because the participation of Indian industry representatives in these engagements further expands the opportunity for direct business-to-business communication and cooperation.
