Max Aerospace & Aviation Pvt Ltd and the Maharashtra government have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build a cutting-edge helicopter manufacturing facility in Nagpur, marking a significant milestone for the state’s aerospace and defense industry.
A major step toward the state’s goal of becoming an aerospace hub was taken when the agreement was formally signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Mumbai’s Sahyadri Guest House.
Over the following eight years, an estimated ₹8,000 crore will be invested in the project. The facility’s development and construction are expected to start in 2026. Over 2,000 direct and indirect jobs are anticipated to be created by the plant once it is operational, significantly increasing employment and industrial growth in the Vidarbha area.
This will be the first facility in Maharashtra specifically designed to manufacture helicopters, with an emphasis on rotary-wing platform integration, customization, and flight testing. Utilizing international-standard technologies and taking advantage of its close proximity to Nagpur Airport, the plant is intended to operate as a Center of Excellence, facilitating effective supply chain management and logistics.
Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted the project’s alignment with national initiatives like “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat,” calling it a milestone for Maharashtra’s and India’s strategic capabilities. He emphasized the venture’s role in boosting self-reliance in defense manufacturing and promised the state government’s full support for its timely execution and success.
Along with other high-ranking officials, Industries Department Secretary P Anbalagan and Max Aerospace Chairman Bharat Malkani signed the Memorandum of Understanding. The project will likely help India’s expanding aerospace supply chain and establish Maharashtra as a top location for high-tech, forward-thinking industries.
