An important turning point in India’s infrastructure development was reached when President Droupadi Murmu declared the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project, which links Kashmir and Kanyakumari. Following successful trial runs, this railway route is scheduled to be formally opened in early February 2025.
President Murmu stressed in her speech that the new rail link represents a “new era of unity” for the country and improves connectivity among India’s many regions. In order to promote national integration and development, the project intends to increase economic growth and make it simpler for people to commute between these two far-flung areas.
The world’s tallest railway bridge, the Chenab bridge, was built as part of this massive project. The Anji Bridge, India’s first rail cable bridge, has also been finished. With 17 new Vande Bharat trains and one NAMO Bharat train added in the last six months, the president noted that there are currently 71 Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and NAMO Bharat trains running throughout the nation.
