Ahead of the Ajit Doval-Wang Yi meeting, Beijing declares that “China is ready to work with India.”

Ahead of an important meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, China has stated its willingness to cooperate with India to strengthen bilateral ties. The long-standing border disputes between the two countries are the focus of this meeting, which is the first since December 2019, especially in light of the recent disengagement deal in Eastern Ladakh.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized the value of respecting one another’s fundamental interests and using communication to settle disputes. During a press briefing, spokeswoman Lin Jian made this declaration, emphasizing China’s resolve to mend stable ties with India.

The next talks are significant because they come after a number of high-level meetings between the leaders of the two nations, including the October 2024 BRICS Summit, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping recently met. Both leaders concurred during that discussion that improving strategic communication and preserving peace along their disputed border are essential.

This conference is a critical step in normalizing relations and successfully addressing shared concerns as the two countries manage their complicated relationship, which is characterized by past hostilities and recent agreements on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
