An encounter in Bijapur killed eight Maoists and injured two police.

On February 1, 2025, a major clash with government forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district resulted in the deaths of eight Maoists. Around 8:30 AM, a joint anti-Maoist operation comprising the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) resulted in a gunfight in the vicinity of the Gangaloor police station.

Intelligence reports of Maoist militants from the ‘West Bastar division’ in the area prompted the start of the operation. Following the battle, two DRG personnel were hurt, although their conditions are said to be stable.

The location yielded a number of weaponry, including a barrel grenade launcher and an INSAS rifle.

This event is part of a larger counterinsurgency campaign in Chhattisgarh, where 48 Maoists had been slain in several clashes since the year started.

The state government has made it clear that it is dedicated to eliminating Maoist influence and fostering growth in the impacted districts.
