Senior commanders from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) held an informal meeting at the integrated check post in Petrapole, West Bengal, on January 9, 2025. The purpose of this meeting was to improve border coordination and discuss a number of shared issues, especially in view of the recent border fencing disputes in the Malda district.
The commanders placed a strong emphasis on managing the border between Bangladesh and India effectively in order to promote mutual understanding and collaboration. They discussed ways to combat cross-border crime and stop unauthorized crossings.
Both parties reaffirmed their determination to work together to address problems like human trafficking and smuggling, which have been made worse by Bangladesh’s political instability.
Ongoing development projects in border regions were also discussed, emphasizing the value of infrastructure upgrades for increased security and collaboration.
The meeting was described as a routine but important step to ensure border stability and strengthen bilateral relations. Both sides reiterated their commitment to upholding a tranquil atmosphere and settling any new disputes through consistent communication.
