EAM Jaishankar On The Opening Of The US Consulate In Bangalore: “Great Day For India-US Relations”

The new US Consulate in Bangalore opened on January 17, 2025, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar hailed the occasion as a “great day for India-US relations.” This occasion is seen as a major turning point in the development of the two countries’ diplomatic and economic relations. Bangalore, India’s IT center, is crucial for promoting cooperation in fields like technology, defense, and education, Jaishankar underlined.

“This consulate addresses a long-standing demand from local residents who previously had to travel to other cities for US VISA services,” Jaishankar said during the opening. He emphasized that the consulate will improve mobility and the visibility of U.S. diplomats in a city that is vital to India’s economy.

Furthering the two nations’ reciprocal diplomatic efforts, Jaishankar further revealed that India intends to open its own consulate in Los Angeles. He discussed how India-US ties are changing, especially in light of technological breakthroughs and defense cooperation.
