From December 24 to 29, 2024, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is expected to travel to the US. Since this is India’s first high-level visit to the US since Donald Trump’s election victory, it represents a significant diplomatic engagement.
Jaishankar will meet with a number of peers during the course of his six-day visit to discuss important bilateral, regional, and international issues. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), he will also preside over a meeting of India’s consuls in the United States.
The purpose of the visit is to strengthen the US-Indian collaboration during a period of transition between the Biden and Trump administrations. Eric Garcetti, the US ambassador to India, has repeatedly underlined the significance of reducing tariffs and boosting trade between the two countries.
