IIT Delhi’s DIA-CoE Transfers Bulletproof Jacket Technology to Strengthen the Indian Defense Sector

A new lightweight bulletproof jacket called ABHED (Advanced Ballistics for High Energy Defeat) has been successfully created by the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). This program is a component of the DRDO-Industry-Academia Centres of Excellence (DIA-CoE), which were created to promote industry-academia cooperation on cutting-edge defense technologies.

Between 8.2 and 9.5 kg, depending on the necessary Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) level, the coats weigh almost the same.

They are appropriate for frontline soldiers because they provide 360-degree protection and are made to withstand strikes from high-energy weapons.

Modern design configurations based on thorough material testing at high strain rates are incorporated into the jackets, which are made of modern polymers and domestic boron carbide ceramic materials.

Improve cooperation between industry partners, academic institutions such as IIT Delhi, and DRDO laboratories.

Encourage research into cutting-edge inventions and denied defense technology.

Encourage defense technology indigenization to lessen dependency on imports.

By utilizing local knowledge and resources, this project not only meets the urgent demands of Indian soldiers in terms of personal protection but also enhances the country’s defense manufacturing sector.
