Russia and the United States resume talks as India’s role gains recognition, according to Russian lawmaker Vyacheslav Nikonov

Recent negotiations between the United States and Russia have restarted, coinciding with increased acknowledgement of India’s diplomatic role in global events, according to Russian legislator Vyacheslav Nikonov.

This development comes after a key phone conference between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which both leaders signalled a willingness to negotiate a cease-fire in the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

During their call, which lasted more than 90 minutes, they decided to begin negotiations aimed at reaching a more comprehensive cease-fire deal following years of hostilities that began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Nikonov stated that India’s growing power is being recognised in these international conversations, implying that India’s diplomatic efforts might play an important role in mediating or influencing results connected to the US-Russia dialogue.

The revived talks come at a time when both governments are looking for ways to strengthen their relationship while dealing with the complications of the Ukrainian war.

These conversations are taking place against the backdrop of a recent US-proposed ceasefire agreement, which Ukraine has provisionally accepted. However, Putin has stated that, while he is open to conversations regarding the truce, there are still “nuances” that must be resolved before any official deal can be reached.

As both countries work through these negotiations, the ramifications for global security and regional stability remain considerable, with India’s position potentially becoming more prominent in future diplomatic interactions.
