As part of the Navika Sagar Parikrama II mission, the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini has accomplished a major milestone by successfully crossing Point Nemo with Lieutenant Commanders Dilna K and Roopa A on board. This incident happened around 0030 IST on January 30, 2025. As the furthest point from any landmass on Earth, Point Nemo is referred to as the Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility.
The crew not only successfully completed this difficult milestone during this part of their circumnavigation journey, but they also gathered important water samples for oceanographic research, which advances scientific understanding of marine environments.
In addition to demonstrating India’s expanding ocean exploration capabilities, the mission seeks to advance gender equality and empower women in marine jobs.
It is anticipated that the INSV Tarini will travel over 23,400 nautical miles over the course of eight months, ending in May 2025. The voyage started on October 2, 2024.
