On the anniversary of the conflict with Pakistan, India is scheduled to test an Agni-6 missile with nuclear-MIRV capability.

As the nation commemorated a year since a terrible conflict with Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is “steadfast as ever” in its resolve to eliminate terrorism and destroy its enabling ecology.

The announcement was made on Thursday, the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, India’s counterattack against Pakistan in response to the incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 men, the majority of them were Hindu vacationers.

The incident, which India attributed to militants supported by Pakistan, set off the biggest confrontation between the nuclear-armed neighbors in decades. Although Islamabad denied any involvement, the incident resulted in a dramatic military escalation and tit-for-tat diplomatic actions.

When India attacked what it claimed were terrorist sites within Pakistan on May 7, 2025, Islamabad immediately retaliated with heavy mortar fire, drone swarms, and airstrikes.Programs for military training

The operation was dubbed “Sindoor” by Modi’s administration in honor of the crimson powder worn by married Hindu women, signifying retaliation for the Pahalgam assault victims. Modi commended the military for their bravery and said that they responded appropriately to those who dared to harm defenseless Indians.

Over 70 people died during the four-day battle on both sides. Pakistan claimed to have shot down five Indian fighter jets within Indian airspace, including three cutting-edge French Rafale aircraft. India has not reported any losses.

US President Donald Trump originally declared the ceasefire on his Truth Social platform on May 10, 2025. Minutes later, the truce was acknowledged by both Islamabad and New Delhi, although India maintained that the deal was made directly with Pakistan.

According to rumors, India is getting ready to test-fire the most recent version of its homegrown Agni missile in honor of the occasion. Named after the Sanskrit word for “fire,” the Agni-6 is built to carry several warheads and has nuclear capability.

On social media, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asserted that the missile’s 10,000-kilometer range puts India in a select group of countries with such long-range attack capabilities.

The Agni-6, according to the BJP, would make India’s security impenetrable and place it among the world’s most powerful countries. A Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) has been issued for a warning region over the Bay of Bengal, indicating preparations for a test launch, according to Indian media.

According to additional sources, the Agni-6 uses many Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology, which enables many nuclear warheads to be delivered to various targets by a single missile.

India’s deterrence posture would be greatly improved with this capacity, which is only possessed by the US, China, and Russia. According to defense analysts, the test’s timing, which falls on the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, is meant to send China and Pakistan a clear strategic message.

The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has confirmed that India’s missile program is ready for the Agni-6 test, pending government approval. The country’s missile program has improved quickly in recent years.Advisory on defense procurement

With the introduction of the missile, India would become a member of the exclusive group of countries with reliable intercontinental ballistic missile capacity, expanding its deterrence beyond local boundaries to a worldwide scale.
