President Trump calls Prime Minister Modi to talk about security in the Strait of Hormuz, strategic partnerships, and West Asia.

US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke over the phone about bilateral cooperation and the Middle East issue.

They had not spoken since a cease-fire agreement was reached between Washington and Tehran. Both presidents emphasized the significance of maintaining the Strait of Hormuz open and secure throughout the roughly 40-minute call.

Following the discussion, Prime Minister Modi wrote on social media that the US and India are dedicated to deepening their strategic alliance in all spheres. He mentioned that the two leaders had discussed the significant advancements made in bilateral cooperation in a number of areas.

Modi went on to say that they had discussed the West Asian situation and were committed to strengthening their Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, emphasizing the importance of preserving stability in the Strait of Hormuz.

Sergio Gor, the US envoy to India, called the conversation “very positive and productive.” Soon after, he told NDTV that PM Modi receives regular updates from President Trump. According to Gor, the president gave Modi an update on major matters pertaining to US-India ties in Washington as well as developments in the Middle East.

Gor said that the US would welcome New Delhi’s participation in the peace process when asked if India might be involved. Additionally, he told news agency PTI that Trump told Modi, “I just want you to know we all love you,” during the call.

When the two leaders last spoke on March 24, Modi stated that India supported de-escalation and the earliest possible restoration of peace in the Middle East. They also agreed at the time that maintaining the Strait of Hormuz’s accessibility, security, and openness is essential to maintaining world stability.

Following the failure of discussions in Pakistan over the weekend, the United States and Iran are currently involved in a precarious two-week ceasefire, with efforts continuing for a second round of talks. The most recent conversation between Modi and Trump took place one day after the US responded to Tehran’s ongoing selective obstruction of ships in the Strait of Hormuz by imposing a new blockade on Iranian ports.

The two presidents had reviewed the bilateral trade deal’s progress during an earlier phone conversation on February 2, emphasizing the continued momentum in US-India relations.
