India and Malaysia had their first Security Dialogue in New Delhi on January 7, 2025. The conference was co-chaired by India’s National Security Adviser, Ajit Doval, and Malaysia’s Director General of the National Security Council, Raja Dato Nushirwan Bin Zainal Abidin. The conversation intends to improve collaboration in a number of vital sectors, including counterterrorism, cyber security, maritime security, and the military industry.
The discussion follows Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to India in August 2024, during which both countries elevated their ties to a comprehensive strategic alliance. This meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to assess their bilateral cooperation and address the current global and regional security situation. They also decided to continue this communication through yearly gatherings.
This inaugural encounter is a vital step towards strengthening India-Malaysia ties, particularly following a period of animosity during the rule of former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who questioned India’s policies on Jammu and Kashmir.
