Understanding cutting-edge technologies is essential, and military training facilities are preparing our troops to face challenges in the future: Defense Minister

Rajnath Singh told the officers at the Army War College (AWC) in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, on December 30, 2024, “Mastering frontier technologies in today’s constantly-evolving times is the need of the hour, and the military training centers are playing a crucial role in equipping & readying our soldiers to deal with future challenges.” He emphasized the drastic shifts in warfare tactics, saying that new approaches such as cyberattacks, proxy warfare, information warfare, artificial intelligence (AI)-based warfare, electro-magnetic warfare, and space warfare are difficult to use in the modern era.

Rajnath Singh referred to the current stage as a transitional time and emphasized the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of establishing Viksit Bharat by 2047. India is continuously developing and quickly becoming a major center for manufacturing. From a military perspective, we are acquiring new and advanced weaponry. Additionally, we export equipment made in India to other nations. Ten years ago, our defense exports were worth only Rs 2,000 crores; today, they have surpassed the previous record of Rs 21,000 crore. By 2029, we want to export Rs 50,000 crore,” he continued.

With confidence that the Armed Forces will be able to meet challenges collectively more effectively and efficiently in the future, the defense minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing integration and unity among the three services. He valued that officers from every wing in Mhow Cantonment receive top-notch training. Through training in subjects like leadership-junior and senior command in AWC, AI & communication technology in Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE), and weapons training in Infantry School, he encouraged the officers to investigate the prospect of fostering integration.

Rajnath Singh went on to say that some personnel will eventually serve as defense attachés and should make an effort to protect their country’s interests abroad. “You should embrace the government’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” concept when you assume the position of Defence Attache. India can only improve its defense capabilities and earn greater respect internationally by being self-sufficient,” he continued.

The defense minister reaffirmed the government’s steadfast resolve to establish India as one of the world’s most powerful militaries and economies. Rajnath Singh also exhorted the officers to embrace the spirit and dedication of Dr. BR Ambedkar. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bringing Baba Saheb’s principles and values to the populace, particularly the younger generation, and characterized him as both the creator of the Indian constitution and a visionary leader.

“This dedication to protect the nation and this spirit to keep ourselves updated in a constantly-changing world can take us ahead of others,” the defense minister said, praising the armed forces for guarding the borders and serving as the first responders during natural disasters.

Commandant Lt Gen HS Sahi gave Rajnath Singh a briefing at AWC regarding the institute’s role and importance in preparing and enabling military officers to fight in all types of conflicts. He received a briefing on the important advancements in training technique, including the training of CAPF officers, collaboration in multi-domain operations, the integration of technology into the curriculum, and exchange initiatives with academia, institutions, and industry. He was also informed about the institute’s worldwide reach, which it has attained by teaching officers from friendly nations and making significant contributions to military diplomacy. On the event, prominent Indian Army officials were in attendance, including Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi.
