16 Islamist rebels were killed on the Afghan border, according to the Pakistani army.

16 Islamist insurgents were killed in a battle along Pakistan’s western border with Afghanistan, according to the country’s military. On the evening of March 22–23, 2025, this incident took place in the district of North Waziristan.

The border guards engaged the rebels in a gunfight and successfully stopped their attempt to infiltrate Pakistan, the army said in an official statement.

Afghanistan has long been accused by the Pakistani government of providing sanctuary to insurgents who assault its territory, especially military targets.

The Afghan government, however, disputes these claims, claiming that it does not offer safe havens to these kinds of organisations.

Sadiq Khan, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, was in Kabul for talks on bilateral ties and economic cooperation at the time of this confrontation.

Since Pakistan has seen a large number of attacks in recent years that have been linked to different rebel groups, its worries about security and terrorism have made the ongoing tensions along the border worse.

The military reaffirmed its dedication to protecting national boundaries and combating terrorism.
