According to Alpha DefenseTM on X, India’s Long-Range Stand-Off Weapon (LRSOW) program has moved from the design stage into hardware realization.
With the system now being built and ready for testing, this is a major turning point in the nation’s efforts to develop domestic long-range strike capabilitieLaunches from a ground-based rocket will be part of the first testing phase. Before moving on to more difficult integration and flight tests, these tests are used to confirm the weapon’s performance specifications. A stepwise approach like this guarantees that the system’s safety and dependability are adequately evaluated prior to aerial deployment.
The LRSOW’s capacity to carry a payload in the 400 kg class highlights its potential for delivering heavy and accurate munitions over long distances. Hardened EN24 and IS 2062 steel, materials renowned for their strength and longevity under harsh operating circumstances, are used to assure the weapon’s structural integrity.
sThe next phase of development will be made easier by the manufacture of Ground Support Equipment (GSE), which is now in progress. The program will proceed to ground integration and captive flight trials after the ground-based launcher tests.
Su-30MKI aircraft, India’s front-line multirole fighters that are anticipated to be the main launch platform for the LRSOW, would be used for these trials.
.The increasing advancement of India’s defense research and development ecosystem is shown in this shift from design to hardware realization.
When the LRSOW program is completely developed, it will give the Indian Air Force a powerful long-range strike capability that will improve its capacity to precisely engage high-value targets at stand-off ranges.
